Adopted 2025-2026 District Calendar

We wanted to be sure and get you the adopted 2025-2026 District Calendar as early as possible for your planning purposes. The School Board adopted the calendar, based on recommendations from the year-long Balanced Calendar committee work this past year.

You may recall the Balanced Calendar survey that I asked you to participate in back in April. Based on the district survey results of families, staff, and students, many parents and community members have expressed interest in modifying the school calendar for various reasons.

The committee reviewed all scenarios and data in order to provide the best recommendation for our community, based on all the survey results, research, known impacts and in-depth discussions. These were their recommendations:

  • Starting the school year in late August
  • Extending the Presidents’ Day holiday by adding four additional days to create a midwinter break
  • Scheduling up to five non-school days on either Fridays or Mondays to create strategic three-day weekends throughout the school year, which could also serve as additional snow make-up days

The Board approved the calendar, confirming the start of school, end of school, and the breaks as listed on the calendar. A sub-committee will be working on elementary and middle school conference schedules, which will be announced most likely by winter break this school year.

The change in the calendar aims to better support our students, families, and staff by maintaining the same 180 instructional days, while minimally shortening the summer break by one week.

This approach is a strategic step in enhancing the quality of education for all students, while supporting the well-being of families and staff. We believe that this new calendar model will help us better serve our students and contribute to their long-term academic, social and emotional success.

You can submit any questions at www.cvsd.org/CalendarQuestions. These questions will be used to form any "Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)," which will be placed on our web site.

Our hope is that this is a positive change for all of our students and families. You are an important part of this decision for a calendar change.
